The second annual symposium in 2017 was expanded to a full day, including an interactive morning workshop that coached participants to tell a story with their science. Workshop registration was full, with a waitlist.
Over 100 people attended the symposium, which included several activities, such as a “Tweet your Thesis” competition, and “elevator pitch” practice.
The afternoon included several presentations from students, post docs, and science communication professionals. Our keynote speaker was Dr. Maddie Sofia, who spoke about her experiences on the NPR (National Public Radio) Science Desk and as co-host with Joe Palca of “Joe’s Big Idea.”
The day ended with a reception, where participants and speakers could network and reflect on the symposium.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our second annual SciComm Symposium! We couldn’t have done it without you.
